About Randi Hubbard- Grunge Artist
by Rick Moyer

It was a cold rainy Saturday afternoon in Aberdeen WA, when I sat down with a cup of tea and Grunge Artist, Randi Hubbard and her husband.  I asked her what she wanted folks to know about her and she began telling me all about growing up in Raymond WA.  She listed many family members and then settled on talking about her husband Bob.  He owns a local muffler shop and is creative just as Randi is.  They compliment each other in about every way.  You can tell she adores him-as he helps her with all of her endeavors and  some of these endeavors included being a monster truck driver! He still looks at her with stars in his eyes.

When her mother passed away she left instruction with Randi, that she should “stop working like a man” and use her creativity that she had been gifted with.  Randi took the challenge and began to express herself in sculpting.  Her sculptures have led her to meet many diverse and interesting people.  Back when Kurt Cobain passed away Randi created a sculpture of him playing the guitar.  She calls it “Cement Resurrection” Vh1, MTV, and various news sources loved the sculpture at the time it was unveiled.  For many years the statue sat in the corner of Hubb’s Muffler Shop until her grand daughter Jada, the Mayor of Aberdeen and others encouraged her to display her work at the Aberdeen Historical Museum on Aberdeen’s  first annual Kurt Cobain day.

Randi sculpted the statue in cement, a rebellious substance, solid and hard to work with, but once it’s set it’s tough!  Kurt said in his journal, “I would rather be a piece of cement than made of fools gold!”

Just talking to her you can hear the passion she has for her work, as well as compassion for humanity.  She doesn’t shy away from her faith in God and the fact that he has blessed her with creativity.  She has produced many fascinating and wonderful pieces of art over many years.  One of her sculptures is a National Monument!  Her and her husband brought it across the United States to New York in honor of the fallen fire fighters.

She is a graceful artist with so much vision for the future.  Feel free to browse through the site and look at her work- you won’t be disappointed.
